Retro Saturday: OMC

Starting off tonight with a genuine 90s international one-hit wonder from New Zealand band OMC - "How Bizarre" was a (now forgotten) hit back in 1996 and it still sounds refreshing today. It pops into my head from time to time and tonight I thought it would be a good candidate for Retro Saturday. When was the last time you heard this on the radio?

I think the last time I heard it on the radio was about 1996 :) I found it a while ago on one of those free CDs you get with the Sunday papers though, and remembered how good it is.I've got it stuck in my head now...

Yes it's a great pop tune which in the current climate probably wouldn't even make the top 75 never mind the top 10 :(

I keep thinking of all these forgotten oldies, even from the recent past....and wonder why the radio has totally neglected them in favour of the same old 10 songs a day.

If anyone is killing music it's probably the radio stations and TV music channels now. I had another depressing night last night watching The Box/Smash Hits/Chart Show TV with 17 more variations on the dull-as-hell regulation r'n'b video. Even faithful travelling companion, who for some strange reason/midlife crisis has developed a bizarre obsession with the Saturdays, the Sugababes, Beyonce and Rihanna (grounds for divorce if you ask me) said last night that he is bored with r'n'b videos which are now at the parody stage :(((((((

Yeah I think you're right- I stopped listening to British radio 4 or 5 years ago because of all the repetition.Even when a good song does come out,it's played to death so you get bored of it quickly.

Then there's 4Music and TMF- they were the two music channels we had in our apartment in Scotland. They pretty much never show any music, just trashy reality programmes! I say stick to Bliss and Magic- full of oldies but goodies :)
