Retro Saturday: Prefab Sprout

What do you think of when you hear the name Prefab Sprout? Perhaps "When Love Breaks Down"? "The King of Rock & Roll"? Then you have obviously been listening to too much Real Radio. (For readers outside the UK, Real Radio is a crowd-pleasing lowest-common-denominator radio station which has no imagination whatsoever)

Anyway tonight I was thinking about this band from the north-east of England, which I loved in the 1980s. My two favourite albums of theirs are "Swoon" and "Steve McQueen" which got a lot of critical acclaim, but little commercial singles success. The first song of them I loved was "Lions In My Own Garden" ("it doesn't sum it up to say I'm singing the blues") which is on YouTube: whilst "Faron Young" has a brilliant line which goes "you offer infra-red instead of sun" which I always loved: and if like me you love "Appetite" the video is at anyway I would urge you to check out this band's first two albums which (IMHO) were their best.
